Jeff Weems has practiced energy-related litigation for over 22 years. Jeff grew up working in the oilfield. He paid for school working on both onshore and offshore rigs. After receiving his B.B.A. in Petroleum Land Management from The University of Texas in 1983 (with high honors), he was a landman, first for Shell Western E&P Inc. and then on his own. Jeff graduated with honors from The University of Texas School of Law in 1989 where he was an associate editor of the Texas Law Review. He began his legal career at Liddell Sapp in 1990. After becoming a partner at Liddell, Jeff joined several friends as a partner at Harrison, Bettis, Staff, McFarland & Weems, L.L.P. He has been there twelve years.
Jeff is licensed to practice in the state of Texas, in the District Courts of the Eastern and Southern Districts of Texas, the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court. He was selected as a Texas Super Lawyer in Energy Law in 2007. He is a member of the API-Houston, TIPRO, and the AAPL. He is a member of the committee charged with updating the AAPL 610 Model Form Operating Agreement. In 2010, he was the Democratic candidate for Texas Railroad Commissioner. He is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation.
