Welcome Welcome to the Houston Association of Professional Landmen (HAPL). We are a non-profit, professional organization founded in 1946 for the purpose of: promoting the landman profession, arranging and coordinating educational and social events for members and contributing to social needs of the Houston community. We number approximately 1250 active members located primarily in the Houston area. Our members represent oil and gas businesses ranging from very large oil companies to the independent landmen. The HAPL holds many events throughout the year for its members and interested non-members. Some of our events include: monthly luncheons, networking and social gatherings, community charity activites and educational seminars. On the first of each month we publish our monthly newsletter for members. We hope you enjoy our website. HAPL Continuing Education Library Home Study Courses Each seminar is available for the price of $50.00 and has been approved by the AAPL for 7 recertification credits including one ethics credit. An AAPL Affidavit of Attendance will be mailed to you with your order of each seminar CD. How to Order: Mail a note along with a check payable to HAPL for the amount of the Seminar. If you want one Seminar pay $50 and if you want both Seminars pay $100. Include in your note: which Seminar you want (the 38th or 39th version), your name and mailing address, and finally your phone and email address in case we need to contact you. Student Scholarships The Houston Association of Professional Landmen Student Scholarship Fund is organized to recognize personal accomplishments, recognize academic achievement, and to aid the children of HAPL members in pursuing higher education through monetary contributions to 1stsemester tuition. Rules Qualification for application requires a graduating senior with a parent who has been an Active, Life, or Honorary Life member of the HAPL eligible to vote for the last three consecutive years (dues current). Note: If the parent has been transferred to Houston within the last three years, said parent should be a member of the HAPL for a minimum of six months and provide proof of membership of the local organization from which they were transferred. Students are qualified to apply if they do not anticipate a full scholarship from a college or university or a full grant from other sources. Only one scholarship may be awarded per student. Pay your dues online or mail them in to the HAPL office. Print copies of the sponsor forms and request your sponsors to fax or mail them to the HAPL office. ARTICLE V MEMBERSHIP (This Article Revised Effective September 16, 2004) Membership in this association shall be open to all Landmen and those professionals who are directly, primarily and regularly engaged in performing services in the oil, gas and mineral industries. A Landman (regardless of title) is defined as a professional person regularly and primarily responsible for the negotiation, acquisition, divestment and management of interest in oil, gas and/or any other mineral estates in land. Eligibility for membership, approval of classification and the acceptance of any applicant therefor shall be determined by a Screening Committee appointed by the President, such committee to include the President. Integrity, Influence and Impact Dear HAPL Members: Our Associations theme this year asks us to consider how we can use our integrity and influence to impact our industry and our community. That made me ask myself what integrity really is to make sure I had some of it. Blacks Law Dictionary defines integrity as The soundness of moral principle and character, as shown by one person dealing with others in the making and performance of contracts, and fidelity and honesty in the discharge of trusts, synonymous with honesty and uprightness. Other words that come to mind that reflect the attributes of integrity are; fairness, loyalty, respect, achievement, excellence, and success. In order to have integrity one must have an introspective life and consciously adopt a set of core values, morals and ethics.
