Position Overview

Nexen is seeking a Houston based Landman to join the Commercial/Land Department.

This position will be primarily responsible for providing Land support to the Eagle Ford and Rocky Mountain Asset Team Landmen, but also supporting the Sr. Manager-Commercial with special projects and Business Development/Joint Venture activities. The ideal candidate will possess prior experience working on producing and non-producing conventional and unconventional properties preferably located in Texas, Wyoming and Colorado, and possess 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience as a Landman to qualify for this position. This position will report directly to the Sr. Manager-Commercial.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the Commercial/Land Department by assisting in the completion of special projects, business development/joint venture activities, title and curative issues, the preparation and routing of miscellaneous documents for execution, internal and external records research, review and summary of contracts and working with contract Land brokers;
  • Support asset Landmen with AFE package justification and support, routing and approvals;
  • Support asset Landmen on lease and contract records related issues;
  • Review and analyze leases and contracts, and input related data into Land records system;
  • Assist with the management of rental, shut-in, minimum royalty and other payment obligations;
  • Assist with the management of lease obligations and recommendation process;
  • Retrieve data and build spreadsheets as required;
  • Assist with Lease Records related document management;
  • Assist with Royalty Owner relations;
  • Work with GIS Analysts to ensure maps accurately reflect the correct lease and related contract information.

Education & Experience

  • Four (4) year Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Energy Management or Petroleum Land Management;
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years’ experience as a petroleum Landman;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Detail oriented and strong organizational skills;
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook;
  • Experience working with Land records system data bases (experience with Quorum Land Suite is a plus);
  • Ability to work with multiple deadlines and set multiple priorities;
  • Experience working with multiple disciplines.
