    Job Responsibilities:

    Work for this position is moderately complex to complex in nature and requires a range of activities. Interpretation, analysis and some judgment are required to select an appropriate course of action

    Area of responsibilities involves one or more of the following: custom, complex agreement forms; Williston lease line wells; Permian production sharing agreements &/or allocation wells, some reporting, audit control proofing, mentoring and leading complex special projects.

    Performs a variety of complex analytical, reporting and maintenance tasks involving some or all the following:

    • Calculations and proofing, title chains, burden breakdown, Escheat and zero production analysis.
    • Evaluating title to determine ownership, tracking and monitoring contractual obligations, updating records for ownership changes, cross-referencing assets, obtaining title curative and other duties as assigned.
    • With minimal or limited supervision, able to independently research and collaborate with appropriate internal and external resources to develop timely and complete responses to internal/external customer inquiries.
    • Makes decisions and determines an appropriate course of action by interpretation and analysis of facts combined with high levels of judgment.

    Knowledge/Business Acumen:

    • Advanced knowledge of Lease Records and/or Division Orders documents, processes and systems (Oracle, Excalibur, Quorum, etc.); able to interpret, setup and maintain moderately complex to complex contracts and/or divisions of interest. May train and/or proof other analysts work.
    • Advanced knowledge of oil and gas leasehold and mineral title; able to chain moderately complex title.
    • Advanced knowledge of relevant federal and state statutes and regulations.
    • Advanced knowledge of Outlook, Word, Adobe Acrobat Pro; Proficient in applying Excel Lookup & Reference formulas and use of Pivot Tables for reporting and analysis.

    Education and Experience:

    BS, EM or PLM preferred with 8-10+ years’ work experience – Advanced professional level

    Technical skills requirement is at an advanced level:

    Proficient in Outlook, Word and Adobe Acrobat Pro; Advanced Excel analytical skills along with ability to use ArcMap &/or Geocortex for geospatial research.

    Additional skills & behaviors - Ability to work well with others, strong work ethic & desire to learn, ability to follow oral and written directions and possesses strong verbal & written skills – communicates info, asks questions & checks for understanding.

    Industry certification as one or more of the following: CPLTA, CDOA, RL, RPL, CPL

    Will hire at level commensurate with experience.

    Job Responsibilities

    • With minimal guidance, the Senior Landman handles land assignments of a broad scope and moderate difficulty.
    • Spends a significant amount of time building and nurturing relationships, primarily in face-to-face communications, to seek out any potential land opportunities.
    • Establishes and maintains relationships with industry peers and counterparts as well as co-owners.
    • Oversees the title examination process and manages risk through the resolution of title defects.
    • Manages all land related functions in an assigned area including the review and approval of title for proposed drilling locations.
    • Collaborates with internal WPX groups (Leased Records, Division Order, Drilling/Completions, Marketing, Accounting/Finance, Regulatory along with Planning) and outside third-party operators and partners.
    • Prepares, negotiates and reviews a variety of joint operating, farm-out, pooling, lease and letter agreements, term assignments, and acreage trades/swaps with third parties.
    • Draws up various types of letter and lease agreements along with the terms along with all other types of oil and gas land related agreements
    • Coordinates with State and Federal Regulatory agencies all exploration, development, and production issues to facilitate company drilling programs and production goals.
    • Follows all external and internal federal, state and local policies and procedures related to Land management function.

    Education & Experience:  

    • Required Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years in Landman experience – prefer Williston basin experience
    • Preferred:  Energy Management Bachelor’s Science Degree
    • Certified Professional Landman is preferred

    Travel Requirements: Up to 40% of the time to field locations (as needed)
